Title: "Don't think of yourself more highly than you ought"
Romans 12:3 "For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you."
Observe: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought...ouch! Paul is saying in Romans 12 that we cannot be conformed to the patterns of the world. The pattern of the world is to think of yourself highly and those around you below you. Even the way Paul speaks in this verse is humble, for by the GRACE given me. He isn't taking credit even for what he is saying here. Then at the end of the verse it is by the measure of faith God has given. There are two "givens" here. This life is all about what God has given and not about us, He is at the center. That is what sober judgment gives, is the ability to see that God is the one who helps us to not be conformed and to think of ourselves below others.
Apply: I need to ask for God's ability to not think of myself more highly than I ought. Most of the destructive behavior in my life is because I have thought more highly of myself when compared to God, my wife, my children, and those around me who don't know Jesus.
Prayer: Jesus, I need to be given your grace of humility. Help me today to not think too highly of myself. Pride is sin and I confess this today as such. Would you convict me of those areas that I need to confess regarding pride. I want your grace not your opposition, convict me of pride and give the grace to confess and repent. In Jesus name, Amen
Scripture: Deut 4:39 Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other.
Observe: Moses says to never forget God, for He is the God of everywhere. There is no hiding from Him. He rules above you, around you, in you, and below you. His love surrounds you. No one can compare. This needs to be burned upon your heart, so you will always look to it and SEE/FEEL Him.
Apply: I must never forget the mightiness of God. There is no one like Him. He is the greatest barrier of protection and Love I need. If I imprint His love and presence upon my heart I will never be without Him.
Prayer: Father God, help me to never forget how great and awesome you are. Burn it upon my heart always bring me back to your arms. You are So extra cool. I love how you love me so wonderfully inside and out. You rock! XOXO
