Title: "Delayed Discipline - Disaster" Mentor: David
S: 1 Kings 1:6 "King David had never disciplined him at any time, even by asking, "why are you doing that?"
O: Solomon, David's son was supposed to be king. David's other son Adonijah had other plans, he wanted to be king. Verse 6 points to the problem David had because he never disciplined his son when he talked about wanting to be king openly in front of David.
A: Am I disciplining my child immediately or am I waiting for "another time". If I am waiting for another time, could it lead to bigger problems?
P: Jesus, help me to see when I should be disciplining my child immediately and not be delayed. Help me to not experience the consequences of delayed obedience. IJN, Amen
Rick- great SOAP. I am convicted along with you on being consistent in disciplining and training our children in the Lord. It's easy to become lazy-or even just tired and to choose the easier path rather than the right one! Thanks for this verse to ponder.
S: 1 Chron 29:14 "But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand."
O: David, after modeling generous giving to his people (for the temple Solomon is building), sees them give willingly, freely, and wholeheartedly and he rejoices at their response. He recognizes however, that all that he and his people had to give was only b/c God had blessed them in the first place. He is humbled (who am I?) and recognizes it as giving back to the Lord a portion of what He has given to them. The very fact that they are even able to give generously is only by God's hand. There is no room for pride in himself or his people in this giving... just humility and gratefulness.
A: Again, God is showing me the need to daily recognize all that he has blessed me with. First my salvation and a relationship with Him. Second, EVERY good thing in my life (the freedoms, health, my family and friends, our home, etc) ALL of the blessings I have are from His hand.
P: Lord, Help me to be grateful and humbled daily at your blessing in my life. It can be easy for me to become discontent or self-centered. Please help me to recognize I really need nothing b/c I have you. Help me to give generously back to you b/c all I have is from you.

S: Psalm 91:1 "Those who go to God most high for safety will be protected by the Almighty."
O: Those who put their trust in God will be protected by God's fortress.
A/P: Help me to trust that you will be my fortress.
