S: Romans 14:20 "Don't tear apart the work of God over what you eat. Remember, all foods are acceptable, but it is wrong to eat something if it makes another person stumble.21 It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything else if it might cause another believer to stumble."
O: Paul was teaching about not judging another believer by what they ate or drank. He goes on to say that if what you are doing makes another believer stumble then it is wrong.
A: I need to be aware not only of my convictions but also of those around me. If I am causing someone else to stumble or fall, then I shouldn't perform the act.
P: Jesus, help me today to not judge or be critical of those who have different convictions in the "gray zone". Give me your insight into others around me and my responsiblity to them in what I eat and drink.
S: Hebrews 9: 16-17 "In the case of a will, it is necessary to prove the death of the one who made it, because a will is in force only when somebody has died; it never takes effect while the one who made it is living."
O: Jesus created a lavish, eternal inheritance for us- life in heaven with God and himself. He left this inheritance for us through His covenant (aka a will) by dying so that we might receive this free and wonderful gift, if we choose to believe in him.
A: I need to use this as an illustration for knowing Christ and explaining what he's done for me and others by his death on the cross. If someone were to tell me they were going to win the lottery, shortly thereafter die, and then leave it all to me, what would my response be? Christ's death was even better than this, because he offers eternal, perfect life with Him!
P: Jesus, you crafted a will with an inheritance that we do not deserve and cannot earn, yet you give it freely to us. Through the sacrifice of your life, you made this gift available. Help me to know and understand your gift and then share that gift with those around me. I praise you and thank you for your abounding love. Amen.
