S: James 4:6 "God opposes the proud but favors the humble."
O: In context, it seems as though James is saying that if you judge or criticize another person, you are being proud. You are trying to elevate yourself above that person by tearing them down. When you judge someone else you are judging the law (pride) and our only responsibility is to obey. We should morn and grieve when we realize our pride and draw near to God.
A/P: While discussing this passage with two friends I commented about another person that was negative.....AMAZING that seconds after reading this passage I talk negatively and am guilty of the very thing this passage is warning against. I confess to you Jesus I talk negatively and am proud. I do not want your opposition but your favor. Convict me of my tongue today and may I not judge others for that is your job.
