S: 1 Cor 1:17 "For Christ didn't send me to baptize, but to preach the Good News—and not with clever speech, for fear that the cross of Christ would lose its power".
O: Paul was saying that there was a way of preaching about Jesus, whereby a person was trying to add to his work (clever speech) or make it more appealing and the message would not be effective (would lose its power).
A/P: There is power in the gospel, pure and simple. Nothing more and nothing less. It is the power of God unto salvation. We have nothing to be ashamed of and in trying to make it more appealing we are canceling the power of it. Jesus, forgive me for trying to "spruce" up the good news of who you were and why you came.
