S: 1 Thes 2:11 "So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do."
O: Paul was saying that he and those following him were praying for this church in Thessalonica. The prayer he was praying was that God would give these people the ability to live worthy lives and then that he would empower them to do good.
A/P: Jesus I need to be praying this for myself and for others. Give me the ability to live worthy of your calling and empower me to do good. I cannot do this on my own strength, I need your help. Help me over lunch hour today and bring in new people who don't know you.
" Psalm 119:176 (NIV) 176 I have strayed like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I have not forgotten your commands. " O: 1) The psalmist acknowledges that he has gone astray. 2) He asks for God to seek him … even when he has gone astray. 3) The Holy spirit is the one who convicts us of sin. We can ask him to seek us out too. A: I can pray this for myself, as many times I'm blind to my own "wanderings". I could even be getting so busy that my prayer life and time with the Lord take second place. No one else may notice this for a long time, but I can ask the Holy Spirit to seek me out on this. I can also pray this for others Christians I know that are not currently walking with the Lord. I want to pray today for those close to me who are wandering P: Lord, I pray today for myself. I imagine most sheep don't even know they are lost until they are beyond hope (without a good shepherd). Show me immediately when I'm choosing a path that deviates from your will. Help me to be constantly looking to you for guidance, and change my heart so that I desire nothing except your will, even in the area of eating over Christmas break. Even in my weakness when I come to you, before or after deviating, come powerfully and rescue me. Show me the way of escape, and help me to quickly flee from temptation. Lord, I pray too for my sons. Lord, I pray that you will seek them every time they wander. I pray that they will sense your presence, and that they will respond to your lordship in every way and every area of their lives. I thank you that you love us too much to leave us in all our sin, and that you provided Jesus sacrifice so that we can be cleansed. Amen
S: 1 John 2:3 (AMP) 3 And this is how we may discern [daily, by experience] that we are coming to know Him [to perceive, recognize, understand, and become better acquainted with Him]: if we keep (bear in mind, observe, practice) His teachings (precepts, commandments). 1 John 2:6 (AMP) 6 Whoever says he abides in Him ought [as a personal debt] to walk and conduct himself in the same way in which He walked and conducted Himself. "
O: 1) John gives a self-test to see if we are growing in our relationship with the Lord TODAY, at present 2) Am I thinking about, and obeying God's precepts and commands. 3) Am I walking in the manner that Jesus himself walked -- Very High standard A: Based on number 2, I thank I am growing, but number 3 is a goal, I will work on my whole life. Only through the Holy Spirit continually leading me, and me continually following can I walk like Jesus. I want to pray about gluttony and that God will change my heart so that I will not weaken when I go home for Christmas. Right now food holds no control over me, but in the US it holds a lot of Power. I do not want to worship food, but I have little self-control. P: Lord, I thank you so much for giving me total victory in giving up diet coke. It was a struggle, but now I don't crave it at all. Lord, I ask that you do the same with sweets. I pray that the part of my heart that has worshipped sweets would be "remodeled" as a special part of my heart reserved for you. I pray that you will give me also an extra measure of self-control as I go to the states. Help me to walk as you walked. You enjoyed food and drink, but did not worship them. I don't want my time in the states to be occupied with eating or not eating. I pray that you would do a miracle in my heart and life, just as you did with the Diet Coke. Change my heart Lord, so that I'm like you in this area. And when you do, I will give you all the glory and praise. Amen
