  1. Title: When Afraid....Obey.
    Mentors: Saul and Jesus

S: 1 Chronicles 10:13,14 So Saul died because he was unfaithful to the Lord . He failed to obey the Lord 's command, and he even consulted a medium instead of asking the Lord for guidance. So the Lord killed him and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.

Matthew 12:5,6,8 And haven't you read in the law of Moses that the priests on duty in the Temple may work on the Sabbath?6 I tell you, there is one here who is even greater than the Temple 8 For the Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath!"

O: Saul died in battle because when he was afraid, he consulted a person who could talk with the dead. He did this instead of asking God for guidance. In verse 14 "The Lord killed him". In Matthew 12 the Pharisees were all over Jesus trying to find a way he was being disobedient to God. Jesus says in verse 6 that He was even greater than the Temple.

A: Both Saul and Jesus are my mentors today. Saul is speaking to me saying, consult God when you are afraid. Don't panic and run to everyone else for advice, run to God.

Jesus is saying that because He is God, we must obey Him and Him alone, not rules and regulations. He is greater than the temple, greater than a system of rules and regulations. They both are saying come to God and obey Him not man or his man made system of religion.

P: Jesus in what way am I not obeying you/ following you and following rules or traditions that don't follow you? How am I being religious instead of pursuing relationship? How am I not consulting you in my decisions? Show me today and help me to change. IJN, Amen

  2. Title: Vertical Living
    Mentor: David

S: 1 Samuel 30:6, "David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the LORD his God."

O: David's men in their grief wanted to turn to violence. David in his grief turned to the LORD. David looked up, his men looked out.

A: Every day I have situations that force a choice. Am I going to respond emotionally and follow my fleshly desire to escalate? Or will I check my emotions and turn to God, pour out my situation and frustration to Him and seek His help and guidance? In every situation I have an opportunity to look upward to God or outward through my flesh.

P: Lord, my heart's desire is to be vertical but my flesh fights that. I pray that I respond in obedience when your Spirit pricks mine and calls me upward. Let me lay down my pride and my desire to be right and seek your will.
