S: Matthew 15:11 It's not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth."
O: Jesus was speaking to the Pharisees and their hypocrisy. The disciples were not washing their hands before they ate. Jesus comes back with "you don't honor your mother and father". Then he moves into the person is unclean because of what comes out of him not what goes into him. What comes out is proof of what is within.
A: Am I aware of what is coming out of my mouth? Do I believe the words of Jesus that says what comes out makes me unclean. May I be aware of what comes out of my mouth today as this is a diagnostic test of what is within.
P: Jesus, you alone can change my thoughts and intentions of my heart. Help me today to be aware of what comes out of my mouth and then to ask you as The Great Physician to treat within.
S: 1 Chronicles 12:17 David went out to meet them and said, "If you have come in peace to help me, we are friends. But if you have come to betray me to my enemies when I am innocent, then may the God of our ancestors see it and punish you." 18 Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, the leader of the Thirty, and he said,
"We are yours, David! We are on your side, son of Jesse. Peace and prosperity be with you, and success to all who help you, for your God is the one who helps you."
So David let them join him, and he made them officers over his troops.
O: David and Amasai both had God focus here, David says if you betray us may God punish you and Amasai said that God is the one who helps David.
A: I need to have a God focus throughout my day. When bad things happen, what is God trying to teach me? I need to leave results to God.
P: Jesus, help me today to leave results to you. May I completely trust your sovereignty in all afairs of my life from smallest detail to greatest event. You cover it all.. IJN, Amen
Scripture "All these were fighting men who volunteered to serve in the ranks. They came to Hebron fully determined to make David king over all Israel. All the rest of the Israelites were also of one mind to make David king." (1 Chronicles 12:38)
Observation Brave, loyal, courageous, prepared, experienced, armed, ready and eager - ALL Warriors from various tribes of Israel, who gave themselves to serve David as their king and leader. Thousands upon thousands came and voted for David as king. Their votes were cast with the willingness and giving of their skills , hearts and lives!!
How true this is of our volunteer Warriors of New Hope!!!!! The characteristics and heart of our volunteers are super phenomenal!! Thousands of valuable servants give of themselves to serve Jesus our King, with our fearless Pastor Wayne in the helm of leadership.
Application This morning, I am overwhelmed with a great sense of gratitude for God's work in my heart. There are times where I take for granted, the fresh work of God in my heart to serve Him - no mater what, with all my heart, willingly, eager, ready and armed as a brave, loyal, courageous, prepared volunteer warrior.
Although I'm on staff, being remunerated as a pastor, I never want to lose the heart of willingly volunteering unto the Lord. It's not the pay that motivates me - it's the understanding and call to serve Jesus as one mind and heart with other warriors!
My covenant - I continue to cast my vote, to make Jesus King of my life and serve side by side with fellow warriors at New Hope, by willingly volunteering to serve in the ranks of God's army! I commit to advancing your Kingdom's purposes with my family and fellow soldiers!
Prayer Dear Commander in Chief! Thank you for allowing me to serve in your army. For receiving me, training me and outing me to work as your soldier. May I continue to faithful to You and my fellow warriors in Your Kingdom.
Help me to as a husband and father in the ranks of my family, to live out this devotion. I want the Shimabukuro platoon to be warriors for You!
