Title: "Meditate on God's Mighty Works" Mentor: Philistines and David
Scripture: 1 Samuel 4:8 "Help! Who can save us from these mighty gods of Israel? They are the same gods who destroyed the Egyptians with plagues when Israel was in the wilderness."
Psalm 77:12 "They are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works."
Observe: The Philistines were afraid of the presence of God. They had heard about what God did to the Egyptians. David was also saying that God's mighty works he could not stop thinking about.
Apply: I need to meditate on the mighty works of God. What are they in my life and in those around me? Through thinking daily about His might works I can have a more appropriate fear of God.
Prayer: Jesus, you have performed many miracles in my life. The miracle of Graham after 22 years of being married. The miracle of my mother being healed of cancer. The miracle of my own conversion. There are many more I can meditate on, you are a great and awesome God.
S: Psalm 77:12 I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds:
O: the author of Psalms 77 steps backs and looks into the past - looks into the examples God has laid out for him. The psalmist remembers the great things that God has done.
A: I must be alert in my reading and meditation. I must look back to my biblical mentors for guidance. God has laid out a map for me to study and I know I will grow and mature if I take the time to be still and spend time with God with an open heart to see and feel him.
P: Father God, Praise be to you for the great and marvelous things you have done in the past and in my life. keep me alert, help me to meditate on your works.
