S: Matthew 18:21-22 "Then Peter came to him and asked, "Lord, how often should I forgive someones who sins against me? Seven times?" "No, not seven times," Jesus replied, "but seventy times seven!"
O: This is a difficult passage and Jesus spends a fair amount of time discussing why you need to forgive. He mentions that you should forgive "70 times 7". Later in the chapter mentions a story of a servant who was forgiven a huge debt and then later he didn't forgive another mans debt. Jesus speaks of how you will be treated in verse 34 if you don't forgive.....wow!
34 "Then the angry king sent the man to prison to be tortured until he had paid his entire debt. 35 "That's what my heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisterss from your heart."
A: What bitterness do I have in my heart toward those who have sinned against me? Have I done my part to forgive them? Have I thought through the seriousness of bitterness in my life?
P: Jesus reveal in my heart any bitterness I have toward other people. Once revealed, help me to forgive others through an understanding of your forgiveness to me. IJN, Amen
