  1. S: James 1:9,10 "Believers who are poor have something to boast about, for God has honored them. And those who are rich should boast that God has humbled them. They will fade away like a little flower in the field."

O: James is definitely turning everything upside down. He speaks of suffering being good for us so that we develop endurance. Poverty is good for us because God honors us, helps us to seek him alone. If you are rich, God is humbling you by making you realize that money doesn't satisfy.

A: Seems like everything I've been reading lately has to do with what Christians are doing with their wealth. What are responsibilities to the poor. In Isaiah, God was upset for the people of Judah put their hope in Egypt and their protection/comfort. Today I put my hope in money/health/comfort. Suffering produces endurance according to James.

P: Jesus, because of the joy set before you.....you endured the cross. You learned obedience through suffering. You say that the poor are honored. The rich are humbled. I am so easily taught by my culture and so resistant to your truth. As we make decisions on how to spend our money and invest, make us wise. As I feel suffering now, help me to realize it is for endurance purposes. IJN, amen
