1 Peter 3: 3-9 "All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation,4 and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.5 And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. 6 So be truly glad.s There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while.7 These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. 8 You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy.9 The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls."
application: Do I believe this? Trials are to show my faith genuine. God is protecting me until the final day by His power. Peter is making clear the struggle, we don't see Him and yet we depend on Him.
observe: all praise, not some praise but all praise. This is because we have been born again by God's choosing. This has happened through the cross of Christ. You cannot put a value on what we are getting in eternal life...priceless. This inheritance doesn't rot or change in value. God is keeping us from harm by his power. We will have amazing joy in the end, after all the hard times show that our belief in Jesus is real. Even though we don't visualize Jesus, we put our dependence in Him. The ultimate gift for our believing in Jesus is that we are rescued from eternal punishment.
Mentor: David Title: Rejoicing on God's provision and deliverance
S: Psalms 18:28-30 (AMP) 28 For You cause my lamp to be lighted and to shine; the Lord my God illumines my darkness. 29 For by You I can run through a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall. 30 As for God, His way is perfect! The word of the Lord is tested and tried; He is a shield to all those who take refuge and put their trust in Him. Psalms 18:36 (AMP) 36 You have given plenty of room for my steps under me, that my feet would not slip. "
O: 1)David is praising God for a specific deliverance 2) David attributes all the deliverance to God's activities on his behalf, and a result of God's character 3) David acknowledges that he has increadible power as he walks by and through and with the Lord. 4) His attitude is one of thankful, joyful, victory. 5) He even notices that God made the pathwide wider (easier) so that he wouldn't slip. God has provided everything .... to ensure David's victory.
A: God has literally bulldozed his way through many of the problems that were facing me only a few days ago. I need to spend detailed time with the Lord, praising and thanking him for all that he has done. I also need to praise him for all he has done and is doing in my life, to ensure continuing victory in me life, and claim verse 36 as a promise for the camp that starts tomorrow.
P: Lord, I have been focusing on the camp, the people, the weather at camp, the food at camp, the sleeping arrangements. But I haven't focused on the God of the camp, you. You are the one that I'm following. You are the one that I delight in. You have asked me to do this camp, and so now, I ask you to widen the path ahead of me so that I may not slip (literally and figuratively). I want to be your vessel this week. I don't want to spend the week wishing that it were over, and going through the motions, teaching English with a grudging attitude and not connecting with anyone. Lord, that isn't giving my best to you. I know that I don't have the energy, the desire, a positive attitude toward camping to make this a truely great week. But that doesn't matter. You are the God of the infinite. You have asked me to do this. Help me to focus on you all week. YOU CAUSE MY LAMP TO BE LIGHTED AND SHINE. Lord, I pray that my light will so shine before men, that they may see my good works and glorify my father who is in heaven. Lord, thanks for providing everything that I need to walk in victory this week. Amen.
