Title: Do you want endurance for the race? Divine Mentor: Paul
S: Romans 5:3 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance.4 And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.5 And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
O: Paul was teaching on the work of Christ in this passage. Sandwiched between what Jesus had accomplished is this discussion on rejoicing in trials. This has to be a foreign concept, who has heard of rejoicing in trials before? The attributes that suffering produces are endurance, character, strengthening hope. Hope in that God loves us and this is known because the Holy Spirit fills our heart with love.
A: When I train for a marathon, I need endurance. Otherwise I get to mile 10 and can't finish the next 16 miles. How do I react when I run into problems or trials? Is it a major inconvenience or am I thinking that God is producing endurance, character and strengthening my hope in him?
P: Jesus, I need your perspective on problems and trials. My modus operandi is to avoid problems in my life and then strongly dislike them when they come. Help me to focus on the character traits it is producing in my while I'm suffering. IJN, Amen

Title: Jesus Dies For Enemies
ReplyDeleteDivine Mentor: Paul
Scripture: Romans 5:8 "But God showed his great love for us by sending His Christ to die for us while we were still sinners."
Observe: Even though God doesn't like sin, He sent Jesus to die for us as sinners (his enemies).
Apply and Pray: I need to love my enemies like God loved me while I was his enemy.
