  1. Title: Affliction- An opportunity to praise God
    Mentor: David

S: Psalms 9:13-14 (AMP) 13 Have mercy upon me and be gracious to me, O Lord; consider how I am afflicted by those who hate me, You Who lift me up from the gates of death, 14 That I may show forth (recount and tell aloud) all Your praises! In the gates of the Daughter of Zion I will rejoice in Your salvation and Your saving help.

O: 1) David knew that he was afflicted (things were going south) 2) David recognized who it is who lifts him up (only God) 3) He knew that God rescuing him … would allow him to praise God not only privately but publicly.

A: I'm starting to worry about a lot of things. Will I find an affordable place to live in Brno, will I ever learn the language, how will I handle the living situation at camp, including the heat, will I really have to repaint the flat that I just painted 10 months ago. When I start to spaz out about this many things.. I need to acknowledge that I'm afflicted. I need to not ruminate... but run to the Lord... the only one that can rescue me. He can rescue me from spazing out by giving me peace. He can also rescue from the situations in the ways that bring him glory. Today I need to talk to the Lord, about situations and my worrying.

    P. Lord, you have commanded that we are not to fret, but come to you with petitiosn and thanksgiving… and you will give us peace. Lord, I've been able to handle all these details until today. But today the worry took over my thoughts. Lord, I can't fix any of these situations. But you can. I now come before you, and ask you to give me a flat that glorifies you, and help me experience peace and give me wisdom until that happens. Lord I'm very worried about the weather at the camp in 2 weeks. It is 92 degrees outside today... and I just can't handle that for 7 days. But you know that. Worry won't change the temperature, and you can do any miracle that glorifies you. So I ask you to take this seemingly tiny worry, and work out the details to your glory, and in the meantime... give me peace. Lord, you know that my landlord in Opava is being a real jerk. I can't fix that. But I ask that you work out every detail to your glory. If he requires me to paint... help me to find someone to do it for me, and help me not to ruminate about how unfair it is, or how this is a waste of God's money, or, or, or. Help me to leave it in your hands. And Lord, when you perform miracles regarding these 3 things, help me to recognize the miracles, and to share them with those around me. Amen.

  2. S: Hebrews 9:14 "Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins."

O: Contrasting the old and the new tabernacle. The approach to sacrifices and effectiveness of both in dealing with sin. The new tabernacle cleanses our consciences, SO THAT we can worship Jesus. There is a relationship of not having our conscience cleansed and worship. When I no my sins are forgiven, I don't feel guilt and that allows me to worship freely.

A/P: Jesus, my sin is paid for and forgotten period. Any sinful thought, action, behavior is covered by the eternal sacrifice of you. I am declared NOT GUILTY today and forever more because of your sacrifice. When you seem far away, remind me of going back to the cross and realizing my debt is paid for and my conscience is clear to worship you. Help me to see you as high and lifted up, more important than any of my problems or anxieties.
